Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione, 500mg Product Review

Life is stressful.  That’s a fact.

Every day you experience some form of stress in your life (whether it be eustress or distress).

And over time, that stress wears away at your body.

It can break down your immune system and decrease your energy levels and make you look older than you actually are.

Obviously, the best way to treat the effects of prolonged stress is to work as hard as you can to remove as much stress as possible from your life.

But it’s never that easy.

As an alternative to help fight the stress, health and fitness-based companies are providing a “master antioxidant” in an easily digested, capsule form.

This antioxidant is called glutathione … and studies have shown that it can help prevent and slow down certain effects of stress:  accelerated aging, cancer, heart disease, dementia, and more.

There are many different brands currently available for consumer consumption – each with their own benefits and setbacks.

Today, we’re going to look at Jarrow Formulas’ Reduced Glutathione, 500mg and find out whether it is a viable option for getting your daily dose of glutathione.

What Is Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione?

Your body naturally produces glutathione.  But there’s an issue…

Your body’s production of glutathione is severely depleted from a variety of factors, including:

  • Aging
  • Poor diet
  • Toxins
  • Pollution
  • Stress
  • Infections

Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione works to not only increase the body’s production of glutathione but to also balance out the ratio of oxidized glutathione to reduced glutathione. (More on this in the next section.)

What Is The Main Ingredient in Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione?

There is only one ingredient in Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione…

You guessed it … glutathione!

But not just any glutathione. REDUCED glutathione – and it’s extremely important for fighting and neutralizing the oxidants that eventually form damaging free radicals in your body.

Your body has what is called a G-ratio – the ratio between reduced glutathione and oxidized glutathione.  A G-ratio that contains more oxidized glutathione is indicative of oxidized stress and potential tissue dysfunction.

The proper ratio to strive for (for healthy cells) is 90% reduced glutathione to 10% oxidized glutathione.  The reduced glutathione in Jarrow Formulas’ product seeks to swing the ratio in the favor of reduced glutathione, consequently giving your body the following benefits:

  • More activity from vitamins C and E
  • Increased proficiency at toxic removal
  • Better synthesis of protein
  • Enzyme activation and regulation
  • DNA repair
  • And more…

What We Don’t Like About Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione, 500mg

  • Itchiness experienced in some consumers. Although we didn’t experience this ourselves, there were reports that a handful of consumers experienced mild to severe itching, both externally and internally.

  • Lack of effectiveness on whitening of the skin. In the past couple of years, glutathione has become a popular supplement for the skin whitening. Many consumers that took Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione complained that it had zero effect on whitening the skin. Most consumers stopped after only one cycle. However, one consumer reported taking three cycles (months) with no visible change.

What We Love About Jarrow Formulas Reduced Glutathione, 500mg

  • Impressive results across the board. As we stated earlier, glutathione is considered a master antioxidant, and Jarrow Formulas’ glutathione seems to affirm that claim.  Consumers have reported improvements in skin appearance, cataracts, allergies, and sleep (just to name a few).

  • Easy to digest veggie capsules. Jarrow Formulas’ Reduced Glutathione contains no wheat, gluten, soybeans, dairy, eggs, fish/shellfish, peanuts or tree-based nuts.  So they’re perfect for those consumers who are on soy-restricted diets, gluten-free diets, and the like.
